Local Charity Awards 5 Scholarships
Grass Valley, CA, December 24, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Five women received an early Christmas present this year: a college scholarship from Lifetime Adoption Foundation, a charity that awards educational assistance to women who have lovingly placed a child for adoption. Some women were also awarded a laptop computer to use in their studies.
Recipients have been attending or are accepted into the following colleges and universities: University of Arkansas Community College (Hope, AR), Vatterott College (Des Moines, IA), Bay Path University (Longmeadow, MA), College of Biblical Studies (Houston, TX), and Delaware Technical and Community College (Dover, DE).
“As our board reviewed the applications, they were overwhelmed with the level of commitment these young women showed through their essays,” says Founder and President Mardie Caldwell, C.O.A.P. “Many of them express the sentiment that they want their child, placed for adoption, to be proud of them. From our perspective, they made a beautiful, selfless choice to ensure their child had a life they couldn’t provide at this time. They deserve help and support in making positive, productive choices to pursue higher education for themselves.”
Lifetime Adoption Foundation relies solely on volunteers, fundraisers, grants, and donations, Caldwell reports. “One local grant received this year was from Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills. It enabled us to purchase laptop computers and award them in addition to scholarship funds,” Caldwell says.
One of the ongoing fundraisers supporting the organization is the Come Paint With Us program, conducted at the Foothills Event Center. “People come for an evening of paint and wine, and lots of fun, and the entire program benefits our educational scholarship program.”
As 2015 comes to a close, Caldwell hopes that year-end giving by those touched by adoption will replenish the scholarship funds so more can be awarded next year. “There are always far more applications than funds available. These women chose a better life for their children, we proudly support them as they work to make a better life for themselves too.”
