Violinist Delivers Captivating Performance at the Birches
Clarendon Hills, IL, December 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Violinist Henrik Karapetyan performed at the Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, Ill. on December 19, delivering captivating renditions of classical, folk and Christmas compositions.
Henrik performs at The Birches several times a year and usually ends the year with a stunning Christmas performance that promotes an elegant and classic holiday ambiance throughout the community.
“His playing is almost hypnotic,” said Birches’ Founder and CEO Jim Curto. “It leaves residents feeling relaxed, yet also completely riveted because every piece is so beautiful.”
Karapetyan, who has been playing violin since the age of six, received his doctoral degree in music at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance and currently teaches music, works for the Detroit Opera House orchestra and travels throughout the Midwest performing at libraries, retirement communities and schools. While Karapetyan clearly has the background to deliver a technically perfect violin performance, he also adds a personal element to his performances that keeps his audience enthralled.
“I often talk about the background of a piece or tell the audience a little bit about the composer’s life or other little details,” said Karapetyan. “When I do this people always tell me that, even though they may have heard a certain piece before, they never had any idea about the background. So this helps them understand each piece a little better.”
This type of audience interaction is one of Karapetyan’s favorite aspects of performing at venues like The Birches. He finds that the older adult audiences at these venues tend to be more appreciative and enthusiastic, which makes his job as a performer more fun.
“Performing at retirement and assisted living communities is very rewarding because I don’t think my performances are appreciated more anywhere else,” said Karapetyan. “Many residents can’t go out to see performances often, especially in the winter time, so that makes it more special. They also like that I play a lot of the music they know and love from when they were growing up. The response is just so cordial and overwhelming.”
According to Birches’ Activities Director Katie Klitchman, Birches residents are, in fact, very grateful for Karapetyan’s breathtaking performances and eagerly await his return in 2016.
“We all feel fortunate to have a performer of Henrik’s caliber visit us here at The Birches,” said Klitchman. “We have a lot of great performers here, but he really brings something exceptional to his performances and the residents all know it.”
