Passage Home Hosts Holiday Workshop for Raleigh Families Fighting Poverty and Homelessness
Holiday Celebration Gives Raleigh Parents Assistance in Making Christmas Special for More Than 300 Children.
Raleigh, NC, December 28, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Passage Home, a nonprofit fighting poverty and homelessness in Wake County, in conjunction with sponsorship from Bayer, helped make Christmas special for more than 300 local children with a party on December 19 at the Chavis Heights Community Center in Raleigh. The event gave parents of the Passage Home program participants a chance to get in the holiday spirit by wrapping gifts, provided by the organization’s Angel Tree program, to take home to their children.
More than 160 moms and 62 dads and veterans participated this year. In addition, 31 families received Advent meals from Saint Francis, which included enough food to provide for families while children are not receiving lunches from school. During the party, Passage Home program participants also enjoyed a visit with Santa, lunch, arts and crafts, and a North Carolina Theatre production.
Quotes:
“The holiday season can be difficult for many people, and we usually see an increase in need this time of year,” said Jeanne Tedrow, CEO of Passage Home. “At the same time, however, we also see how people come together to help those that are less fortunate, and this is always evident at our Christmas party. Countless families and volunteers, many of them from Bayer, have donated their time and resources to ensure that we can make Christmas brighter for area children.”
“Bayer maintains a longstanding relationship with Passage Home because we see how much good they do for the community,” said Ashley Holland, Bayer associate manager, Corporate Communications. “We were proud to participate in Passage Home’s Christmas party and provide food and entertainment, because we get to witness firsthand the joy experienced by families coming together to celebrate the season.”
