Arlington Free Clinic Hosts Senator Adam Ebbin and Rx Partnership Board of Directors

Arlington, VA, December 30, 2015 --(PR.com)-- State Senator Adam Ebbin (D-30th) and Rx Partnership’s Board of Directors toured the Arlington Free Clinic (AFC) on December 4 during the board’s quarterly meeting. Senator Ebbin and board members were able to learn about the clinic’s daily operations, challenges the clinic faces and how a partnership with Rx Partnership helps overcome the financial and administrative barriers to accessing prescriptions for their patients.

AFC, a Rx Partnership affiliate clinic, has been providing comprehensive medical care to low-income uninsured Arlington residents since 1994. Last year, AFC provided 8,817 medical visits for 1,611 individual patients, most of whom require multiple prescription medications to successfully manage chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. AFC distributed over 18,000 prescriptions of medications provided by Rx Partnership, with a value of over $4.3 million.

“Without access to this medicine, [their] diseases would be uncontrolled and would lead to complications such as heart attack, stroke, eye diseases, kidney problems or vascular diseases,” said Terry McManus, AFC Nurse Practitioner. “This in turn, would make it difficult or impossible for them to continue working or caring for their families.”

Rx Partnership is an innovative public/private partnership that increases access to medications for the most vulnerable populations in Virginia, such as low income, working individuals who are uninsured. Rx Partnership connects 20 free clinics across the state directly to the pharmaceutical manufacturers donating medication in bulk. In fiscal year 2015, Rx Partnership helped more than 12,747 uninsured Virginians receive 62,490 prescriptions with a retail value of $14.3 million.
