Hopsy Launches the First Local Craft Beer Online Marketplace and Draft Beer Delivery Service
Albany, CA, January 06, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Hopsy, an Albany-based startup, announced today the launch of a new online marketplace and home delivery service for local craft beer. Starting in January, beer enthusiasts of the San Francisco Bay Area will be able to order fresh draft beer from a list of local microbreweries on Hopsy’s ecommerce platform and get the convenience of home delivery - like a modern beer milkman.
"Hopsy’s mission is to create the first brewery-to-table online marketplace for local breweries to connect with local beer lovers who care about drinking fresh, quality beer and supporting their community," said Sebastien Tron, who co-founded Hopsy with Andrew Perroy and Bodie Paden. "We created a fully cold supply chain from the brewery to the home to ensure our customers get access to the freshest beer possible and local breweries no longer have to worry about the degradation of their beer through distribution."
Over the past five years, the number of breweries in the nation has grown by 20% year over year, reaching an all time high of 4,000 breweries in September. Craft beer already accounts for 20% of the $100 billion beer market in the US (source: Brewers Association). However, only a fraction of these local micro breweries are distributed in retail, where shelf space is dominated by the big beer companies. The result is most of us don’t know about the amazing beers produced by our very own local breweries. And it is very challenging for those local breweries to compete and grow. "While the beer industry is consolidating like never before with the merger between big beer giants InBev and SABMiller, Hopsy is creating an alternative distribution system where customers have online access to local breweries they usually don’t find in traditional retail," Tron says.
Beers are delivered in 32 fl. oz. growlers (the equivalent of two pints). Hopsy is currently offering twenty beers from ten Bay Area breweries, and will broaden its offering as the number of customers grows. The company is offering on-schedule delivery for now, but the goal is to quickly offer same-day and on-demand delivery of draft beer. With Hopsy, fresh draft beer from the brewery to the home has never been easier.
Hopsy founding team includes Sebastien Tron, Andrew Perroy and Bodie Paden and has extensive experience in online retail, alcoholic beverage and food delivery.
Tron, CEO, has an MBA from UC Berkeley-Haas and experience with Munchery, SpoonRocket and Nakedwines.com. Perroy, COO, previously managed business operations at Nakedwines.com, the Napa-based “kickstarter for winemakers,” sold to Majestic Wines for $100M in May 2015. Paden, CTO, was the lead developer at Nakedwines.com, and previous CTO at eWinery Solutions, the leading CMS for wineries.
