Elaine F. McConkey Honored for Her Work in Treasure Management and Fixed Assets, Named to 2016 Strathmore’s Who’s Who Roundtable
Elaine F. McConkey, of Waldorf, Maryland, has been honored as a Strathmore’s Who’s Who 2016 Roundtable Member. This honor is in recognition of her work in Treasure Management and Fixed Assets.

Elaine F. McConkey is the Treasury and Fixed Asset Director of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMEC), which provides electric service to Charles and St. Mary’s counties and portions of Calvert and Prince George counties. Ms. McConkey earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland. In 1967, she came to SMECO as an Accounting Clerk. During the subsequent years, she worked her way up from this position to Chief Accounting Clerk, Accounting Manager and finally to Treasury and Fixed Asset Director. During this time, she worked closely with Engineering to complete the necessary paperwork for construction contracts. She also input assets into their old asset system and did any necessary journal entries to update the general ledger with necessary information. She was the project manager to change over from their legacy fixed asset system to their new asset system on Power Plant. She works closely with Engineering and other members of Accounting to ensure that the information housed in their Power Plant asset system is current and accurate. She participates in providing data for loan application to federal agencies and monitors the cash flow. She also makes necessary requests for loan funds when needed. She works closely with her Treasury Services Manager to ensure that their receipts come in and their payables go out on a timely basis. Prior to joining SMECO, she worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She started as a file clerk categorizing fingerprints and then worked her way up to Assistant to the Manager in the Fingerprint Division. Ms. McConkey is a member of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives, a Past Board Member of Hospice for Charles County and a Member of the Finance Committee for Hospice. She is a Past Board Member of Habitat for Humanity in Charles County. Ms. McConkey is currently funding 2 children in the Save the Children program.
