New Children’s Book by Patty Lord Shares Story of Two Unlikely Friends
Dog Ear Publishing reviews this charming new illustrated book that shows what can happen when an unlikely friend shows up.
Prospect, KY, January 19, 2016 --(PR.com)-- A rubber chicken who’s feeling desolate and grimy finds some shelter from a rainstorm in a tall oak tree next to a farmhouse. The sound of quiet sobs lures him close to a bedroom window, and before he knows it, he’s being pulled inside, rescued from a weak branch. Little does he know that the little girl he encounters will change his life – and he hers. Follow their delightful story in a new children’s book released by Dog Ear Publishing.
"Sometimes You Need a Rubber Chicken" stars Chuck, a rubber chicken who doesn’t believe he has a purpose and is embarrassed about how he looks, and Jan, a girl who also gets embarrassed, thanks to a medical condition that leads other kids to make fun of her. She’s crying because surgery is scheduled for the next day to fix the problem. Chuck becomes an unexpected source of support throughout her hospital stay and realizes even rubber chickens can have a special purpose in life.
Humorous illustrations by Al Margolis in pen and colored pencil pair naturally with the story, which works for reading aloud or for young readers. Parents will appreciate its note of encouragement and positivity.
This is the first children’s book for author Patty Lord, who first met Chuck the rubber chicken after she was appointed principal of a middle school. (His chance appearance boosted morale at the school.) Lord has a master’s degree in education and is a certified school consultant and principal. She’s worked with children for 35 years as a teacher and/or administrator at the elementary, middle and high school level.
She works part time as a school administrator and has two children, Steven and Rachel. Lord and her husband, Kenny, live in Prospect. She enjoys writing, traveling and reading, as well as hanging out with her Italian greyhound.
Illustrator Al Margolis’ work has enhanced advertising and children’s books. The Cleveland Art School graduate has been advertising agency art director and owns Margolis Creative, specializing in humorous illustration. He enjoys helping children, learn, enjoy and understand their experiences.
