Pharma Gets Ready for a Unified Patent Court and Unitary Patent Laws

SMi Training are delighted to introduce its forthcoming workshop taking place on 6th April in Central London: “Getting Read for the UPC and the Unitary Patent – The Do’s and Don’ts in Pharma.”

London, United Kingdom, January 26, 2016 --(PR.com)-- In the next 18 months, the European Union will gain a new unitary patent right – taking effect across most of the EU as a single territory - and a new Unified Patent Court (UPC) for determining European patent disputes. For the first time ever, litigants will have the opportunity to establish freedom to operate or halt an infringer across a single, large European market - of around 400 million consumers - in one court action.

The CPD certified workshop hosted by global IP firm, Rouse Legal, has been put together for an audience of pharmaceutical professionals looking to prepare for future regulatory changes and protect their product portfolio of drugs. It will include in-depth discussion; comparisons to other sectors; and case reviews focusing on strategies to mitigate legal risks.

Nicole Jadeja, a partner at Rouse Legal and specialist in patent dispute resolution, will offer strategic guidance on best practice, new legal frameworks and unitary patents, so that attendees can understand how the UPC and unitary patent laws will affect key areas such as filing, opposition, licencing and litigation strategy.

Nicole is a patent litigator who, maximising her science degree and background working in the pharmaceutical industry, has gained most of her experience litigating for pharmaceutical companies. As well as being an experienced litigator in the UK Courts and the European Patent Office, Nicole is one of few patent litigators to have experience of litigating in the Court of Justice of the European Union having worked on two seminal cases which were referred to this Court.

For those who are interested in attending, there is currently a £100 saving online which expires on 29th January. Further details are available online at www.smi-online.co.uk/2016mc-upc.asp
