Gift Registries Are No Longer Just for Brides and Babies
Yonkers Partners in Education launches social media-driven gift-giving campaign for new afterschool student center.
Yonkers, NY, January 27, 2016 --(PR.com)-- A cutting-edge academic center will be opening for students in Yonkers in mid-February. Called the YPIE (Yonkers Partners in Education) College Zone, it combines academic support and life-skills coaching with unique “samplings” of creative and innovative fields from professional guests such as computer scientists and slam poets.
To fill the College Zone with the $20,000 worth of supplies and equipment students need, YPIE is putting a twist on traditional fundraising efforts with its #SparkTheZone gift registry. Using myRegistry.com, YPIE created a Wish List of over 50 essential items – from paper towels to headphones to a state-of-the-art projector.
Says Sam Wallis, YPIE’s Director of High School Programs, “The College Zone needs to create an environment of high expectations for the over 200 students who will be using the space each week. We expect a lot from our students, and they should expect a culture at the College Zone that is inviting and supportive. We hand-picked each item to support our vision for the program, and donors can feel as if they are not just writing a check; they are buying something tangible to help in our mission to spark students’ curiosity.”
The campaign was launched on Facebook and Twitter, and through a fun and engaging YouTube video.
Continues Wallis, “We are reaching out to people in new ways, to people who are used to getting their information online and shopping that way too. Supporting students should be just as easy. With just a few clicks, they can help give these students a fun place to explore, discover, and flourish.”
Unlike a typical fundraising campaign, YPIE’s gift registry provides potential donors with a tangible goal and the ability to choose how their donation is spent. Supporters are given the opportunity to be actively involved in the process and have a personal connection with the College Zone.
In just 7 days, YPIE has raised $7,817.52 worth of supplies with the College Zone Wish List – but there is still a long road ahead to reach the $20,000 mark. You can find YPIE’s College Zone Wish List by visiting, www.myregistry.com/public/sparkthezone.
