Shorecrest Preparatory School Gives Students a Technology Boost with First Annual St. Petersburg STEAMfest
As tech jobs become even more plentiful, Shorecrest prepares and encourages students to fill the demand in the technology sector.
St. Petersburg, FL, January 27, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Shorecrest Preparatory School will host STEAMfest on Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 10am-1pm.
STEAMfest is a family-friendly, community-wide celebration of all things creative, inventive, imaginative, and fun. The event features hands-on, interactive, experiential learning geared toward enhancing the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) curriculum for children in preschool through middle school.
Activities will include arts and crafts, robotics and electronics, building and making, and Legos and marble tracks. Guests can visit booths from Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Great Explorations, Wonder Studio and more. Busch Gardens educational programs will be bringing two animal ambassadors. Food trucks will be serving lunch and refreshments.
Shorecrest Preparatory’s STEAMfest comes only months after the STEAM Club for Girls was formed to encourage girls’ interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
About STEAM Club for Girls
The young women of Shorecrest Upper School (grades 9-12) championed the formation of an after-school group in which to pursue their passions for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Known as the STEAM Ambassadors, this group of high school girls meets monthly to work on different STEAM-related activities and projects. The STEAM Ambassadors have partnered with Academy Preparatory School and with girls in the Shorecrest Middle School to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for STEAM subjects. Each month they work together to solve and complete design challenges, spend time exploring and creating in Shorecrest’s Makerspace, and talk with other girls who share similar interests in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
