Ed Currie, the creator of the Carolina Reaper which is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the hottest pepper in the World, will be coming to Zest Fest to share his sauces, stories, and peppers with the thousands of people attending the event over the weekend.
Ed, lovingly known as a bit of a Mad Scientist, is one of the most knowledgeable pepper experts in the world and often works with colleges and universities to assist in the study of the benefits of capsaicin and peppers in general.
Cultivating peppers has been a passion of Currie’s since the 1980s as he found that indigenous people groups that consume spicy food have little instances of heart disease and certain types of cancer. The creation of the Carolina Reaper was a result of this research.
