Z-Medica® and Kubtec® Team Up to Enhance Emergency Medical Response
Milford, CT, January 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- In an increasingly volatile world, how we respond and manage crises is crucial. Whether its ecological disasters, war or terrorism, emergency medical teams rely on the latest clinical developments to save lives and avoid casualties.
Recently, Z-Medica®, the manufacturer of QuikClot® hemorrhage control products, has worked with Kubtec®, a leading supplier of advanced digital imaging systems, to help in the testing of prototype products. As part of their collaboration, Kubtec® provided Z-Medica® access to an XTEND Portable X-ray System to examine the X-ray detectability of its hemostatic devices. This enables medical personnel to locate Z-Medica® products inadvertently left in a wound when there is a traumatic injury or profuse hemorrhaging.
“The XTEND is the highest resolution and lightest portable digital X-ray imaging system for the field. Since QuikClot® is used in multiple settings such as the military, law enforcement and hospitals, the XTEND was perfect to confirm visibility of the radiolucent threads in it. This helps Z-Medica® develop a better product for use in many environments,” said Vikram Butani, CEO of Kubtec®.
Given that trauma is a leading cause of death in the United States, with the National Trauma Institute reporting that “hemorrhage is responsible for over 35% of pre-hospital deaths and over 40% of deaths within the first 24 hours,” preventing excess hemorrhaging is vital.
According to Joseph Azary, Vice President of Quality & International Regulatory at Z-Medica®, “Kubtec® has great radiology products, which allow us to detect if our X-ray thread is showing up on a typical image. The Kubtec® images will prove critical for us to see if we want to pursue different radiolucent thread technology or materials.”
QuikClot® products are impregnated with kaolin, an inorganic mineral that accelerates the body’s clotting ability. QuikClot products are carried by the United States military, international military units, federal agencies such as the FBI, Homeland Security, police officers, state troopers as well as in many hospitals and urgent care facilities to treat multiple injuries.
Once again, health technology is addressing the challenges of our time and facilitating solutions for these hurdles. The collaboration between Z-Medica® and Kubtec® is greatly helping to further medical advances andimprove our response to emergencies and avoid loss of life.
