The Birches is "Living It!" This February
Clarendon Hills, IL, January 31, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, Ill. is living life to the fullest and embracing new pursuits this February as part of the four-week “Living It!” campaign.
The “Living It!” campaign, which was created by the successful aging organization Masterpiece Living, focuses on developing one component of successful aging each week. The Birches community will focus on intellectual engagement the first week of February, social interaction the second week, physical activity the third week and spiritual connection the fourth week. Participants are encouraged to try four new programs or activities each week.
Since the first week of February is dedicated to intellectual growth, the Birches community will flex its mental muscles by learning the popular brain-building game Sudoku, writing Valentine’s Day-themed poetry, learning how to draw and playing math bingo.
During the second week of February, the Birches community will gather together for Mardi Gras entertainment and a parade, learn how to ballroom dance and participate in an old fashioned Sock Hop headlined by singer Kym Frankovelgia.
With a focus on physical health and wellness, the third week of February will include a presentation on heart healthy eating from Birches’ dietitian Linda Graham, a lesson on how to make bread with Dining Services Director Diana Subacius and a chance to move to the music at the “Living It!” Dance Party.
The fourth and final week of the “Living It!” campaign emphasizes spiritual practice, so residents will have the opportunity to participate in spirit-nourishing activities like a faith discussion group, mindfulness meditation, a prayer circle and a volunteer activity that helps others.
This is the third year The Birches has participated in the “Living It!” campaign and, according to Birches’ Activities Director Katie Klitchman, it is the perfect way to bring some inspiration and excitement to the otherwise quiet and sedentary winter months.
“'Living It!' reminds us that we can stay active and healthy no matter what the weather and no matter what our age,” said Klitchman. “When we start 'Living It!' each year it becomes clear how much our happiness is in our own hands and how good it is for us to try new things.”
