Accredited Appliance of Phoenix Offers Appliance Maintenance Tips for Snowbirds
Following simple maintenance tips can prevent odors and problems with appliances.
Sun City, AZ, February 04, 2016 --(PR.com)-- In Arizona, the population grows by an estimated 400,000 people in the winter months. Accredited Appliance of Phoenix likes sharing tips for maintaining well-running appliances for these visiting snowbirds as well as full-time residents.
John Kisiel, operations manager of www.accreditedappliance.net, suggests the following tips for dishwashers:
- To help avoid odor or odor-causing residue in your dishwasher, use
dishwasher and disposer cleaner once a month as part of routine maintenance. Clean the interior of the dishwasher by running Affresh® tablets or one to two cups of vinegar on the normal wash cycle. Use a paste of baking soda and water on a damp sponge to clean the door seal.
· Always use a rinse aid to reduce spotting.
· Always use a high quality, fresh detergent. Powder is preferred.
· For snowbirds or part-time residents who do not use the dishwasher during the summer months, turn off the water and power supply to the dishwasher.
For washing machines, open up the lid. If you have a high efficiency machine that has an outside detergent cup, open that, too. This will prevent mold as well as foul odor, Kisiel says.
“Appliances that are not used for months may need more appliance repairs than those used more regularly,” Kisiel says.
For refrigerators, empty them. Use your snowbird travel as an opportunity to clean out the fridge, Kisiel suggests. It is funny how those condiments you opened “last week” were actually opened up months or years ago, and are now expired. If you are unplugging your refrigerator and it is a refrigerator/freezer unit, make certain you have emptied the freezer, too. Note: if you DO unplug the unit(s), you will need to leave the door open to prevent mold and foul odors.
Even with regular appliance maintenance, most appliances will need service at some point. “We have offered appliance service and appliance repair for more than 30 years on most brands,” says Kisiel. “We offer same day and emergency appliance repair service at no extra cost, and have an above-industry standard one-year warranty on all repairs including labor. Customers also can receive a 10 percent discount if they schedule appliance repair online.”
