Award-Winning New Book Shares Heartfelt Stories of World War II Seen Through Lives in Small-Town America
A new book by Stan Beebe of Hagerstown, Md., relives the life and times of people in a small Iowa, town, set against the backdrop of World War II. His depiction led the book to receive a literary award from Dog Ear Publishing, which has just released the novel.
Clark, IA, February 05, 2016 --(PR.com)-- World War II and its impact were felt around the world, including small towns across the Midwest, and the young men who left home to serve in foreign lands. A new book released by Dog Ear Publishing brings the war home to a small town in Iowa, and its powerful narrative has been recognized with the Dog Ear Publishing Award of Literary Excellence.
“The War Christmases 1941-45” – a fictionalized memoir by Stan Beebe – was one of only nine releases from Dog Ear Publishing in 2015 to be recognized with the literary award. The company’s editorial team decides which products qualify for the honor, and the recommendations are then reviewed by the managing editor, editorial services manager, and the publisher.
The book tells what it was like in a small town in the Midwest, especially at Christmastime during World War II, and follows the young men who went into service. Beebe describes it as a look “at the positive side of life as a memoir blended with fiction,” adding that it depicts the life and times of that era showing humor, love, and tragedy.”
The author was especially pleased to hear that the book’s editor “could not put it down” and is delighted he can boast of an award for literary excellence. “The very wording of that award pleases me,” he said.
The book was a labor of love for Beebe, who grew up in small-town Iowa. Thus far the reaction to “The War Christmases” has been positive. “People who are reading it like it,” he said, adding that he had sold it to many of the residents in his hometown.
He was one of seven siblings and was 8 years old when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and the United States entered World War II. He has also written “Ben Franklin & the Prius,” in which a reincarnated Ben Franklin sets out in a Prius to determine whether “all are created equal and the pursuit of happiness,” have any meaning in the 21st century.
