Event Summary:

Nowadays, conforming to fashion trends is crucial for most consumers, making the fashion industry a new target of fraudsters and counterfeiters. Infringements of clothing, accessories, cosmetics and other beauty products are typically viewed as the new subjects in copyright, trademark and design-patent lawsuits. Thus, many companies continually strive to battle against fraudulent activities in the fashion industry.

The loss of revenue is not the only aftermath companies suffer from intellectual property infringement. Their products’ value and their company’s reputation are also at risk. In addition, most counterfeited beauty products contain harmful chemicals which consequently pose threat to consumers’ health.

In order to protect products against counterfeiting and knockoffs, companies must develop intellectual property protection policies that not only adhere to copyright, trademark and design patent laws but which encompass effectual IP management and proper risk assessment. In doing so, companies have a greater chance to avoid complicated federal and state lawsuits.

In a two-hour live Webcast, a panel of thought leaders and practitioners assembled by The Knowledge Group will discuss the significant IP Issues in the Fashion and Beauty Industries and the latest measures on How to Protect Your Products and Brands against infringement and counterfeiting.

Key topics include:

▪ IP Law on Fashion Designs
▪ Role of Trade Dress in Trademark Law
▪ Design Patents under the U.S Patent Act
▪ The Ongoing Battle of Fashion Designs for Copyright Protection in U.S
▪ Trademark Ethics
▪ Aesthetic Functionality as a Defense to Trademark Infringement
▪ Alternatives to Trademark Litigation
▪ Licensing Agreements in the Fashion Industry
▪ Recent Cases and Decisions
