SKILLSdox Collaborates with edX to Connect Quality Education to Millions in India
SKILLSdox Inc., an Ottawa, Canada-based company and edX, a Cambridge, USA-based company, entered into an agreement to help expand edX’s offering by early 2016 from their top university partners across India’s mass population.
Ottawa, Canada, February 10, 2016 --(PR.com)-- SKILLSdox is collaborating with edX an online learning destination and MOOC provider, offering high-quality courses from the world’s best universities and institutions to learners everywhere. SKILLSdox and edX will work together to through SKILLSdox’s online Indian education gateway and marketplace “School of Skill” to represent and promote edX to millions of Indians.
“We are delighted to work with SKILLSdox to provide education to learners across India,” said Anant Agarwal, edX CEO and MIT professor. “India is our second largest market for learners after the US, and we know that skills and career-focused courses are extremely important to these learners. Through SKILLSdox and edX, many more learners across India will have an opportunity to improve their job prospects and their lives.”
Earlier this year, SKILLSdox completed a $30 million investment from the largest media conglomerate in India, BCCL (Times Group), to support the marketing of online education to upwards of 80% of India’s population through TV, radio, digital, newsprint and billboards. Under this investment, SKILLSdox will reach hundreds of millions of people each week for years to come with marketing campaigns focused on educating, promoting and providing access to online education from top institutions like edX.
India is one of the world’s fastest growing emerging markets and with such growth there are many challenges the country is facing including the lack of skilled resources. With there being not enough qualified teachers in the country, the Minister of Finance has tackled this national challenge by establishing the National Skills Development Council (NSDC) with a focus on addressing the education gaps and skills shortages. Prime Minister Modi’s mandate not only includes the vision of skilling up 500 million people by 2022, but also the digitalization of the country. “The combination of a large amount of people to train, the shortage of skilled teachers and a focus on digitalization of the country makes a prime opportunity for online education. Through School of Skill, a partnership with edX and our investment from BCCL, we have the right mix to help connect the country to quality education,” says Brad Loiselle, President/CEO SKILLSdox.
