FTP Releases First Major Feature of 2016 - Nested Workspaces
On January 27th, 2016, FTP Today released their first major feature of 2016, Nested Workspaces. Nested Workspaces give FTP Today clients the ability to completely customize the configuration of their directory folders and users any way they see fit.
Henderson, NV, February 12, 2016 --(PR.com)-- On January 27th, 2016, FTP Today released its first major software update of the calendar year to its customers. A new feature, called Nested Workspaces, now gives customers the flexibility to design their FTP folder hierarchy anyway that suits their organization, yet still provides the ultimate in user access control.
FTP Today began with the goal of creating a flexible solution to replace traditional FTP servers, which don’t give organizations the ability for users to access folders outside of their home directory, without authorizing them to access the entire FTP server.
In 2010, FTP Today released its third generation solution allowing assignment of user access to folders outside the user’s home directory -- a more flexible hierarchy that gave users tight access permissions to use particular Workspaces and not the entire FTP server.
However, as more clients joined FTP Today, they realized that the third generation folder hierarchy didn’t necessarily work well for everyone, sometimes requiring new clients to adapt to FTP Today vs. the other way around. This was especially true for those clients who were switching from another FTP provider or from an in-house solution, who wanted to maintain their current folder hierarchy.
With the advent of the new Nested Workspaces, a more efficient permissions assignment system is now in place, giving FTP Today clients the ability to completely customize the configuration of their folders and users any way they see fit. Users can now be assigned limited access to any folder -- at any level of the directory tree. If desired, administrators can still assign a user access to multiple folders located in completely different branches of the directory tree.
Other features released with the Nested Workspaces update include:
Workspaces (i.e. folders with specific user access permissions) can be created at any point in directory tree.
Entire directory branches can be created on the fly when creating a Workspace at the lowest level of the branch.
Subfolders can be converted into Workspaces, and Workspaces can be converted back into standard Subfolders.
All content not assigned to the user will be completely masked, even if such content is located along the navigation route to a user’s assigned Workspace(s).
