North Shropshire College’s BTEC Qualifications

Oswestry, United Kingdom, February 14, 2016 --(PR.com)-- North Shropshire College (NSC) will be launching a new series of vocational BTEC qualifications this year for a September 2016 start. The BTEC qualifications at NSC are offered in a variety of subjects from Agriculture and Wildlife and Countryside to Interactive Media and Art. The Level 3 BTEC’s on offer at NSC take one to two years and can accrue enough UCAS points to qualify for access to Higher Education courses, Foundation Degrees, HND’s, HNC’s and full degrees.

Level 3 BTEC qualifications are considered incredibly valuable in the workplace and are an acknowledged route into Higher Education; they are well regarded by Universities. The Higher Education admission service, UCAS, says that A Levels are still the most popular route into university, but parents and students need to be aware of other options. The number of students entering higher education by routes other than A Levels has increased; 26% of people accepted onto degree courses in 2015 have held a BTEC qualification, compared to 14% in 2008.

Sara Shelston, NSC’s Academic and Professional Studies Curriculum Manager, commented, "We are finding that an ever increasing amount of our learners are gaining places at university following completion of Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas in a range of subjects. Learners studying BTEC Applied Science have gone on to read subjects such as Law, Criminology and Forensic Science, with our BTEC Interactive Media students gaining places to study Games Design and Film Production. Our BTEC Level 3 Foundation Art and Design Diploma course is also a really successful pathway to university with learners going to a range of universities to study such as Liverpool, Bath, Cardiff and Manchester."
