Dark Arts Entertainment Presents RYDE, a Feature-Film That Parallels Real-Life Uber Serial-Killer in Kalamazoo, Michigan
Described as Taxi Driver for the rideshare generation, Ryde follows a sociopathic rideshare driver who becomes disgusted by the shallowness of modern-day Los Angeles, drugging and kidnapping passengers so he can instill his own brand of social justice.
Los Angeles, CA, February 24, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Real-life Uber serial-killer parallels thriller feature-film Ryde.
Dark Arts Entertainment and Trüben Films have teamed up to bring the motion picture thriller Ryde to the big screen.
A.J. Carter will direct the script that he co-wrote with scribe Joe Brouillette. Previously as a team, they found success optioning their crime thriller Prisoner Zero in 2015, and co-writing the martial arts actioner Black Dragon with Charles Cohen of AEI. Dragon is slated for production in 2016 in Australia, with Carter attached to direct.
Described as Taxi Driver for the rideshare generation, Ryde follows a sociopathic rideshare driver who becomes disgusted by the shallowness of modern-day Los Angeles, drugging and kidnapping passengers so he can instill his own brand of social justice.
Producer Richard Halpern (Kate Bosworth starrer Amnesiac) was inspired by several unnerving experiences as a rideshare passenger. Dark Arts developed the idea into a full-length script. Collectively, the team has been in development on the project for more than a year and a half.
“Oddly, we're all casually getting into a car with someone we actually do not know. And we're simply supposed to trust them with our lives,” said Halpern. “Truth is, once we're in that car, we're totally under the driver's control.”
Immediately captured by the idea, Carter became a rideshare driver and completed over 60 trips to immerse himself in the world of ridesharing.
Says Carter, “While Ryde will showcase unique imagery made possible by today’s modern filming technology and techniques, I’ll be paying homage and taking inspiration from some of my favorites -- Taxi Driver, Collateral, Insomnia, and Nightcrawler, just to name a few. The perfect blend of commercial and gritty indie.”
Ryde is executive produced by John Linton of Dark Arts Entertainment. Dark Arts is a division of the Smooth Motion Media Group (www.smoothmotion.com). The motion picture is currently in pre-production with an anticipated production start date of May 2016.
