Vegan Cooking Competition Hits Manhattan with Spotlight on Brussels

Brooklyn, NY, February 25, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Brussels sprouts are the new kale…. And they’re getting an even trendier treatment at U.S. Veg Corp.’s next vegan food competition, the Battle of Brussels, Monday, February 29, at V Sport Organic, 7-10 p.m.

The public is invited to sample creations from up to eight chefs, including:

Shoshana Frishberg-Izzo, of Brooklyn Rose Pastries, presenting Brussels Sprouts Cake

Rachel Shamah, of Brooklyn Whatever, presenting Shpickles (with brine, garlic and spices)

Tere Fox, of Rockin' Raw, presenting Señor Brussels (with quinoa, shiitake bacon, and dried cranberries)

Allison Polaski and Alexis Smith, presenting Al & Al's Bangin' Brussels Pizza

Melissa Morgan, presenting Buffalo Brussels Bites

Attendees will award a People’s Choice winner, and expert judges will also weigh in on their favorites. Among the official judges is Giacomo Marchese who runs the Muscles by Brussels podcast, of special interest to vegan athletes.

Drink specials available for the evening include organic sangria pitchers ($25), margaritas ($6), and micheladas ($4).

The brussels sprouts competition follows on the heels of popular sampling nights staged recently, which included vegan incarnations of tacos, macaroni and cheese, and burgers.

U.S. Veg Corp is a 5-year-old event planning company best known for its presentation of the New York City Vegetarian Food Festival every spring, drawing more than 6,000 attendees.

Co-founder Sarah Gross said the idea for food competitions arose to bring vegans together in a more intimate setting. “We pack the restaurant with all these happy eaters who go from this sample to that sample and then back again,” she said. “There’s a lot of applauding and celebrating the goodness of delicious, healthful food.”
