Southside Chabad to Send Care Packages to IDF for Purim
Event will support Israel’s Soldiers as they defend the Holy Land from daily attacks during the Jewish Holiday of Purim.
Jacksonville, FL, March 02, 2016 --(PR.com)-- One of the 4 “Mitzvot” (practices) observed on the Jewish Holiday of Purim* is sending gift baskets to friends and neighbors promoting friendship and unity.
As Jacksonville readies for the Purim Holiday a special event will take place on March 13th 11am in consideration of a special community whose Purim will be spent in harm's way protecting the Holy Land - the IDF.
At a recent Shabbat Dinner Jacksonville Native and “Chayal boded” (lone soldier) Joey Offenberg mentioned how uplifted he and his comrades were upon receiving care packages from over-seas. “The moral support was really appreciated and some of the items we received - even fresh socks were like a gift from heaven!” It was then decided that Chabad of Southside would undertake this project to support the IDF.
Rabbi Novack and community members will personally deliver the packages in Israel before Purim.
You can support this project in 3 ways: 1) by joining them on March 13th at 11am as we prepare care packages to deliver to Israeli Soldiers. 2) By making a donation of money or goods (goods must be coordinated with Chabad for appropriateness). 3) By spreading the word on Social Media or the old fashioned ways.
Lone Soldier Offenberg will be participating at the event and you can too. The event is free and open to the public. Guests will also enjoy a kosher pasta bar for lunch (fee).
To participate, sponsor a package or contribute items to be delivered visit us online or call 646-4434.
*The festival of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring). It commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.”
