Dover Downs Hotel & Casino Employees Honored at DHLA "Stars of the Industry" Event
Dover, DE, March 06, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Dover Downs Hotel & Casino employees were recognized at the 2016 Delaware Hotel & Lodging Association “Stars of the Industry” celebration on Feb. 26.
Novalita Mendoza, an inventory specialist in the housekeeping department who has worked at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino for almost 11 years, was awarded the 2016 “Heart-of-the-House” Employee of the Year honor during the ceremony at the Clarion Belle Hotel in New Castle, Del.
Mendoza, who has been employed at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino since April 2005, was promoted to inventory specialist in July 2010. She was nominated for the honor by Sr. Director of Hotel Operations Doree Kuhn.
“Nova has great enthusiasm for the work she does, making effective contributions to her department on a daily basis,” Kuhn said. “Nova has received the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino Award of Excellence and numerous commendations from senior management at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. Her cheerful, upbeat and positive disposition makes her a pleasure to have as a part of our team and a great asset to Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.”
The “Heart-of-the-House” Award recognizes an employee who has shown exemplary professionalism and exceptional service. Nominees are judged on performance that goes beyond normal job responsibilities and outstanding and unusual service to the property and guests.
Other Dover Downs Hotel & Casino workers who earned nominations for the Stars of the Industry celebration include Dunika Gilliam, a 12-year employee who serves as a front desk supervisor and Maria Rangel, a 10-year employee who serves as a guest room attendant.
“[Dunkia] has served as a role model to show that a good work ethic, as well as respect and courtesy, go a long way,” Kuhn said. “Maria is very outgoing, friendly and familiar with the needs and special requests of our frequent guests. There are many guests who request that their room be on Maria’s floor and section.”
Gilliam was nominated for “Front-of-the-House” Employee of the Year and Rangel was nominated for “Housekeeper of the Year.”
