Before relocating to Southern California from Boston, she was vice president of a real estate development and management company on the East Coast. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Wheaton College, with additional courses in business administration.

In her free time, Lavigne enjoys music, attending shows and concerts, and loves to dance. She is an avid reader and belongs to two book clubs. Involved in her community, she is a member and past director of Camino Health Center Auxiliary in San Juan Capistrano, and she also supports Mission Hospital Foundation, the local Boys & Girls Clubs, and donates to many charitable organizations.
