Pillar College Receives “Excellence and Leadership Award"
Newark, NJ, March 20, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Pillar College was recently named by (NCLC) Newark City Of Learning Collaborative as the 2016 recipient of their prestigious “Excellence and Leadership Award”. This distinction recognizes Pillar College’s hard work and dedication to supporting the youth of Newark in acquiring the skills, fortitude, and services needed to access and succeed in college.
The primary goal of NCLC is to increase the percentage of residents with postsecondary degrees, certificates, and quality credentials from the current 17% to 25% by 2025. The mission is to promote quality, equitable access and success to all students living in the City of Newark, especially underrepresented groups, such as African American and Latino males and adult learners, and those with some college but no degree.
Dr. David E. Schroeder, President of Pillar College said, “The award is extremely gratifying to our institution, and shows our dedication to creating the best possible environment for those we serve so that we in turn can provide the highest level of service to our community population.”
While all six universities and colleges in Newark are making great contribution to this 2025 goal, Pillar makes three primary contributions: the LEAD program (an adult degree completion program), the BLEND Program (for Spanish speaking students), and the DEED program (High School juniors and seniors taking college level courses).
The award will be presented during the NCLC Recognition Ceremony on March 23, 2016 at Rutgers University-Newark, Paul Robeson Campus Center (University Club)
