CHD Expert Releases Their 2016 Restaurant Unit Report, Reporting Industry Counts for 678,817 Restaurants by: State/Menu Type and State/Segment/#Units
The 2016 Restaurant Unit Report details and segments the volume of restaurants in operation across the 50 United States.
Chicago, IL, March 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- CHD Expert, the Chicago-based foodservice database and analytics firm, has released its Restaurant Unit Report for 2016. The report details the Full Service Restaurants (FSR) and Limited Service Restaurant (LSR) landscapes in each of the 50 United States, broken down by menu type and segment. The Unit Report further segments chain and independent operators.
“CHD Experts restaurant data segmentation is second to none and this report is always highly anticipated among foodservice industry professionals and the public alike,” said Catherine Kearns, General Manager at CHD Expert The Americas. “The foodservice supply chain is incredibly sophisticated and it is critical for suppliers to have a detailed understanding of the restaurant landscape to be as efficient and profitable as possible.”
As of March 2016, CHD Expert reports that there are over 678,000 restaurants in operation across the United States, showing positive growth from 2015. Naturally the states with the largest populations, such as New York, California, Texas, and Florida, have the highest density of restaurants. When combined, these four states make up 35 percent of the total number of restaurants in the United States.
While the overall restaurant landscape in the US continues to rebound, the independent restaurant landscape saw a .92% decline in 2015, resulting in a net change of 4,000 fewer units compared to 2014. CHD Expert defines an independent as a restaurant with less than 10 units in operation, whereas a chain has 10 or more.
Of the 50 states, Iowa has the largest percentage of total LSR chain restaurants, with 75 percent of the state’s restaurant landscape. With regard to independents, New York has the largest percentage of independents, with 60 percent of the state’s LSRs being independent.
