St. Petersburg, FL, March 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Known for producing theatre, movie and television stars, Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg will showcase its newest cast of Broadway hopefuls in a mesmerizing production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” at 7pm at the school’s Janet Root Theatre. The longest running show in Broadway history, “Phantom of the Opera” features lavish costumes and scenery, as well as a thrilling score with well-known songs, including “Music of the Night” and “Masquerade.” The show is the highlight of Shorecrest’s annual “Celebrate the Arts” week.
Shorecrest’s past theatre students have included Patrick Wilson and Ashlee Dupre' – both of whom have starred in professional Phantom productions. Wilson starred in the leading role of Raoul de Chagny in Webber’s movie adaptation of Phantom in 2004. Dupre’ was a ballet dancer in the 2006 Las Vegas production of Phantom.
Interestingly, the school’s connection to Phantom doesn’t end there. Shorecrest’s music director, Michael McCarthy, is an internationally acclaimed actor and singer who starred as Phantom in Ken Hill’s original musical adaptation of the novel in London’s West End and United Kingdom tour.
Based on the novel “Le Fantome de L’Opera,” the show is set in a 19th-century French opera house, where a young soprano, Christine, becomes the obsession of the Phantom, a disfigured musical genius living in a haunting underground lair. Consumed with winning her love, the Phantom terrorizes the opera house in this dramatic story that reveals the true power of music and love.
Ticket sales begin April 11 at the Box Office, located at the Janet Root Theatre on the Shorecrest campus at 5101 First St. NE, St. Petersburg. Adult tickets are $20 and $10 for students. Box Office hours are 8am to 4pm Apr. 11-15 and 90 minutes before each show, April 14, 15 and 16. The show begins at 7pm all three performances.
“Phantom of the Opera” is co-directed by William Leavengood and Cheryl Lee, who also serves as choreographer. “Phantom of the Opera” is licensed by R&H Theatricals.
