Biotechnology, Volunteers, and Virtual Reality: a New Attack on Oil Spills
OneFarm Project Aims to Reverse Decades of Pollution on the Niger Delta, One Farm at a Time.
Los Angeles, CA, April 01, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Sustainability International announced today the OneFarm project, a campaign launching this week on Generosity.com to support cleanup of Nigerian farms devastated by decades of oil spills.
For years, oil spills have polluted Nigeria’s rivers with little to no international attention. A report published by the United Nations Development Program estimated that over 10,000 oil spills have dumped over 546 million gallons of crude into the Niger Delta since 1958. However, for Chinyere Nnadi, Co-Founder of Sustainability International, these statistics are far more personal. His family had prospered along the banks of this delta for generations.
“For the last 50 years, the 30 million people of the Niger Delta have had their environment, health, and livelihoods destroyed so that we could drive our vehicles. It’s time that we fix this 20th-century misstep with 21st-century solutions. The people of the Niger Delta deserve to live sustainable lives. Our OneFarm project aims to shine a light on the problem and presents a quick, affordable solution to restoring the livelihood of the people of the Niger Delta,” said Nnadi.
Sustainability International’s OneFarm will begin this summer with a few volunteers, a camera crew armed with state-of-the-art virtual reality film technology, and a patented new process to clean the contaminated soil. OneFarm is looking to raise $25,000, to cover the cost to restore one farm on the Niger Delta while filming a virtual reality documentary highlighting the problem and portraying a sustainable solution to restore farming to the region.
OneFarm will utilize a patented, new biotechnology tested and validated at the University of Central Florida, which turns oil pollutants into a natural fertilizer. With only one application, it is possible to restore the biological evolution of a farm within 15 to 30 days, at a cost of only $2,000 per acre.
