T-9 Mastered, Inc., Prepares Investigators for the Challenges of Conducting Campus Sexual Assault Investigations
Sacramento, CA, April 08, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Was Angie sexually assaulted at a college party? Or did William have Angie’s affirmative consent to have sex? This “he said-she said” conflict between two fictional college students mirrors the real-life scenarios that Title IX investigators typically confront, and is a key component of a three-day training presented by T9 Mastered, Inc., scheduled for June 14-16, 2016, at the Doubletree Anaheim - Orange County.
Campus sexual assault investigations are making national headlines and drawing intense scrutiny from diverse audiences, including students, academics, the legal community and the federal government. T9 Mastered’s program was designed by a team of lawyers and investigators with expertise in conducting sexual assault investigations. The course gives participants the tools to conduct prompt, thorough and impartial investigations, while also coping with the associated emotional turmoil in these high stakes and personal processes.
The June training will include a half-day devoted to trauma-informed forensic interviewing, which will address techniques for gathering information from those exposed to sexual violence. Participants will also examine issues of consent, incapacitation from drugs and/or alcohol, social media evidence, biases, and the legal framework underpinning Title IX investigations. On the final day, investigators will weigh the evidence gathered during their mock investigation of Angie’s complaint and learn to present their findings in workshops focused on report writing and assessing witnesses’ credibility.
Presenters at the June training will include the developers of T9 Mastered, Sue Ann Van Dermyden, Deborah Maddux and Keith Rohman, along with Dr. Brenda Ingram, an expert on the impacts of trauma. The program is beneficial for both novice and seasoned investigators. Attorneys can achieve CLE credit.
A prior attendee of T9 Mastered’s training noted, “I have been to other Title IX trainings, but none had this kind of substance. Exceptionally well organized and presented.” Another campus investigator stated, “The best training I’ve been to. All the trainers were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and supportive.”
