Macrium Survey Backups Up Reseller Trends
A recent survey from backup and recovery software providers, Macrium, finds over 70% of resellers offer Backup as a Service, and pulls on some ugly data disaster stories demonstrating small businesses have a way to go before backup is an integral part of their business.
Manchester, United Kingdom, April 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Macrium Software have recently undertaken a survey with over 120 of their resellers covering 20 different countries to understand their views on the backup industry, including challenges and changes they are seeing.
The survey titled The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, backed up current trends in the marketplace, with over 70% of resellers offering Backup as a Service, and hardware fails being the number one reason for data loss. What was found to be particularly interesting was the discussion on cloud technologies for backup and a polarisation of views within the reseller marketplace. Many believed that is was vital for increased protection, however others mentioned that there is a misconception that the cloud is infallible.
Macrium also asked partners about their most ugly data disaster stories which ranged from very expensive databases being lost to lightning strikes and malware attacks. One reseller stated:
“The client’s building burnt down. He did not have off site backup, instead he relied on a local backup to an external HDD which was kept in a fireproof safe on premise every night. The safe unfortunately was not waterproof. In putting out the fire, the fire department flooded the safe, damaging the external HDD. We had to send the drive out for professional data recovery, costing the client thousands of dollars in expenses, on top of lost productivity for the two weeks it took to recover the data.”
