Operation Exodus Produces Plays Written by Inner City Kids

New York, NY, April 15, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Operation Exodus, a non-profit youth organization that offers mentoring and tutoring services, is announcing a one night only theater production called "MI HIstoria, Mi Corazón," (My Story, My Heart).
Operation Exodus has enlisted the help of well-known theater director and playwright Josh Lewis of the Atlantic Theater Company. Lewis is guiding Operation Exodus students in a playmaking series "Mi Historia, Mi Corazón," as they share and celebrate their unique stories.
This playmaking process, developed by the 52nd Street Project, is bringing adult mentors and disadvantaged youth together to craft plays. These plays will be produced and performed by adult actors, who will elevate the stories into humorous, poignant and entertaining theater.
The plays will be performed one night only, May 5th, at the Five Angels Theater in midtown Manhattan, with proceeds to benefit Operation Exodus programs.
Ten Operation Exodus students are being given a rare opportunity to express themselves creatively through writing. Then, professional actors will bring their stories to life. "Professional actors know how to take the characters and lines of dialogue as written, and commit to playing them authentically. When they do, something magical happens," says Lewis.
Proceeds from the May 5th event will support the Operation Exodus SmartARTS Express Yourself summer learning program, and their After School Achievement program for the 2016-2017 academic year.
