Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to Host Its 64th Western Regional Conference in Colorado
Members of the international non-profit organization will gather for a weekend celebration of sisterhood, leadership training and community service.
Denver, CO, April 15, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. today announced they will host its 64th Western Regional Conference on April 14-17, 2016 at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center in Englewood, Colorado. More than 300 sorority members, affiliates and distinguished guests are expected to attend the conference and will celebrate the weekend’s theme “Uniting Communities for Growth, Partnerships and Service.”
A historically and predominantly African-American women’s organization, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was founded in 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The organization’s members aim to enhance the quality of life within the community through public service, leadership development and education of youth.
Sorority members and their affiliates – including Philos, friends of Sigma Gamma Rho, and Rhoers, the organization’s young ladies group – attending this year’s conference will take part in leadership meetings, informative workshops, luncheons and other festive celebrations. Members will also take part in a Western Region community service project by donating and presenting wigs and hairpieces to the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Susan G. Komen and the American Cancer Society. The presentation will take place during the public meeting on Friday, April 15. The public meeting is free to attend and will begin at 7:30 pm.
The Western Region was organized in 1952 at the Boule in Cleveland, Ohio. The Western Region of Sigma Gamma Rho is most recognized for collaborating with the Grand Basileus (International President) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The organization’s Western Region is currently comprised of members from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
