Cookie Grimes - Author, Illustrator and Narrator of the Children's Book "A New Year's Family"- to Air on Montana Public Radio with Newly Released CD on Fri. Jan. 11th
As one reviewer wrote, "What a joy it was reading this book to my seven-year old granddaughter, Hannah. This book has so much to say to children about one of life's most important lessons. It gave me the opportunity to discuss with Hannah about how important a person is on the inside, not just how someone looks on the outside." The CD seems to enchant young people listening to the sound effects and the voice of the narrator.
Victor, MT, January 09, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Cookie Grimes, author, illustrator and narrator of the children’s book “A New Year’s Family” will be aired on Montana Public Radio, KUFM 89.1 in Missoula, Montana on Friday, January 11, 2008. The daily radio program “The Pea Green Boat”- the longest-running, regularly scheduled children’s program in public radio - is hosted by Anne Garde. The program starts at 4:00 p.m. and will air for one hour.
The recently released CD, narrated by Grimes, will be played during the program, and Garde will be discussing various topics with the author. Cookie Grimes writes children’s books that help put ideas into a child’s mind about the tools we all need to get through life.
Making the CD was a dream for Cookie as a young adult, and is now a reality. “Reading the story was my favorite part,” Grimes says - once she got used to speaking into the microphone. “Gathering the sound effects was the challenge: we put the microphone out on the lawn to get the song of our Montana state bird, the meadowlark. Then we decided to use that sound for each turning of the page. Gathering the information for the CD was not an easy task,” says Cookie.
That’s when she decided to call on her old piano teacher, musician Russell Perri, for his assistance. The two of them spent hours gathering sounds effects from ducks, chickens and the cracking of eggs. “I learned a lot about sound”, says Grimes. Perri did the introduction, “I liked his voice”, says Grimes. Then Perri came up with the melody and the two of them worked together and came up with the rest of the sound effects and music. “I worked for days sorting the sounds we gathered. Selecting the one that would work best was tedious,” laughed Cookie.
Jason and Deborah Hicks, who produce high-quality audio works for recording artist Huey Lewis and others, as well as their own band, cleaned up all the voice and sound effects. Tate Publishing, a Christian book company in Oklahoma, publisher of Cookie’s books, combined all the audio work, and produced the final CD.
So tune into Montana Public Radio on Friday, January 11th at 4 p.m. and enjoy the final results.
