Transgender American Veterans Assn. Elects Vice President of the Board of Directors
Akron, OH, April 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) today announced the election of Gene Silvestri as Vice President of the Board of Directors. The Board makes policy decisions, authorizes rulemaking and oversees the TAVA's operations.
Gene is a U.S. Army disabled transgender veteran, and currently serves as the Veterans Affairs Coordinator for The American Military Partner Association (AMPA). In 2003, he received an honorable medical discharge from the U.S. Army. In 2009, Gene became involved with the Sacramento County veteran service organization as a local transgender veteran liaison. Since then, Gene has served on the board of the Sacramento Valley Veterans, his local chapter of the American Veterans For Equal Rights (AVER). He is a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He most recently served as committee member for the CalVet LGBT Veterans Leadership Forum, the first-statewide event of its kind and participated on the first VA Northern California Health Care System's LGBT Primary Care veteran panel. Gene continues to advocate on behalf of LGBT veterans locally and nationally. As a married transgender disabled male veteran, he brings a unique perspective and awareness concerning VA benefits and LGBT veterans and their families. Gene also serves as TAVA's social media director, along as the assistant website director.
