Sow for Love Seeks Volunteers for Haiti Mission
Lesage, WV, April 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Sow for Love, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to serve impoverished women in Haiti, is in need of volunteers to sew and help make hygiene kits that will be sent to hundreds of girls and women in August.
Sow for Love, which is based in Lesage, W.Va., is partnering with International Missions Outreach of Haiti to distribute the kits, which will include items like soap, panties and washable pads. By providing these items, Sow for Love will help girls and women in Haiti be healthier and help them bring dignity to their lives.
“By supplying hygiene kits to the school girls in Haiti, this will allow them to stay in school longer and keep a healthy life,” said Sow for Love founder Rhonda Smith.
With 80 percent of its population living in poverty, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Less than half of the population has access to health care services, and many women do not have basic feminine hygiene products.
“They use unsanitary items such as corn husk, dirty sheets or rags, cotton from mattresses or anything they can find,” Smith said. “The hygiene kits help prevent diseases and infections from using these items.”
Smith said the Sow for Love team wants to reflect Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
The team is made up of Smith, her family and friends, and members of New Life Church who have been sewing most of their lives. They have scheduled a sewing day at New Life Church in Huntington on May 12, from 6-8 p.m.
“Our goal is to give women the best product sewn with love,” Smith said.
Smith said Sow for Love hopes to one day supply every woman in poverty with a product that will enable them to live healthier and productive lives.
