Bios:

As a poet and essayist, Richard Jeffrey Newman's work explores the impact of feminism on his life as a man, especially as a survivor of childhood sexual violence. As a co-translator of classical Persian poetry, he writes about the impact of that canon on our contemporary lives. His books include For My Son, A Kind of Prayer (forthcoming in April 2016 from Ghostbird Press), The Silence of Men (Cavankerry Press), and the translation The Teller of Tales: Stories from Ferdowsi's Shahameh (Junction Press). He curates the First Tuesdays reading series in Elmhurst, NY and is acting President of the Board of Directors of Newtown Literary Alliance, a Queens-based literary non-profit. Newman is Professor of English at Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY. His website is www.richardjnewman.com.

Sherese Francis is a Queens-based published poet, writer and blogger. Currently she runs the blog, Futuristically Ancient, where she writes about the arts and cultures of the African Diaspora through an afrofuturist lens. Additionally she is the literary director of the upcoming Queens Book Festival. Besides her blog and the festival, Sherese is working on a few other projects, including a fantasy novel called "The E" based in Queens, a self-published chapbook, "Lucy's Scroll-Bones," and a longer poetry manuscript.

Manila-born Luis H. Francia is a poet, nonfiction writer, and playwright. His latest volume of poetry is Tattered Boat, released in 2014. Previous collections include The Arctic Archipelago and Other Poems, Museum of Absences, and The Beauty of Ghosts. He has read at numerous literary festivals and most recently at the XI International Festival of Poetry (2015) held annually in Granada, Nicaragua. A collection of his most recent nonfiction, RE: Recollections, Reviews, Reflections, was released the summer of 2015. In 2002, he won both the PEN Open Book and the Asian American Writers literary awards. He is in the Library of America's Becoming Americans: Four Centuries of Immigrant Writing. His full-length play, The Strange Case of Citizen de la Cruz, had its world premiere in San Francisco in 2012.
