Case Study and Group Delegation Confirmed from Nord Stream 2 AG at Gas Storage and Transmissions
Discuss the role that Gas Storage and Transmissions has to play in safeguarding the EU's security of energy supply, and how regulators are rejuvenating this dynamic market.
London, United Kingdom, May 18, 2016 --(PR.com)-- A working meeting was held in Berlin between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sigmar Gabriel, German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. The parties discussed gas exports from Russia to Germany. It was highlighted that last year had set an all-time record for gas supplies from Russia as they grew by 6.6 billion m3 (a 17.1% increase). The growth trend continues this year as well: the exports have already risen by 2 billion m3 (a 19% increase) in the first four months of 2016 compared to 2015. In light of the increasing demand for Russian energy products in Europe, the meeting participants stressed the importance of the Nord Stream 2 project. It was noted that the new gas transmission pipeline would not only improve the reliability of gas deliveries but also facilitate the development of the European gas market.

Against this backdrop, SMi is proud to announce that Paul Concoran, Chief Financial Officer at Nord Stream 2 AG, will be leading a case study at 13:20 on Day Two titled 'Nord Stream: Enhancing Europe's long-term energy security'. His presentation will cover the following key points:
• Assessing the growing natural gas import gap in the EU and the evaluating the best supply options
• The role of Nord Stream: Guaranteeing safe and reliable gas supplies to Europe while protecting the environment
• Evaluating the need for gas imports and stronger EU internal gas market
• How Nord Stream 2 can help achieve this
The 10th annual Gas Storage and Transmissions conference, taking place on 15-16 June 2016 in London, will provide the ideal platform to discuss the role storage and transmissions can play in safeguarding the EU's security of energy supply, in addition to the role regulators have to play in rejuvenating this dynamic market. Case studies will be provided on current and future infrastructural developments across Europe, including the Turkish, Nord and South Streams and the forthcoming Nord Stream 2 project. The two-day event will assess whether diversifying gas supply routes and new interconnector projects can meet the growing need for natural gas imports in Europe as production in the North Sea continues to fall.
Speaker Panel includes:
• Christophe Poillion, VP and Director of European Strategy, GRTgaz and Chairman of the Task Force on Security of Supply, Gas Infrastructure Europe
• Ralph Bahke, Managing Director, ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH
• Paul Corcoran, Chief Financial Officer, Nord Stream 2 AG
