Church of Scientology Opens Facilities to the Community

Church of Scientology invites public into the Fort Harrison for community events and meetings.

Clearwater, FL, May 18, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Fort Harrison, the Church of Scientology’s international religious retreat in Clearwater since 1975, is proud to announce upcoming community events open to the public.

On Saturday, May 21st, is a brunch in celebration of Armed Forces Day on May 21st. The brunch includes a gourmet buffet prepared by award-winning Chefs, judicial guest speaker presentations on the rights and freedoms our Armed Forces protect, and a special acknowledgement of our veterans and active duty military.

The Church’s next Charity Coalition luncheon is Wednesday, June 29th. Established in September 2014 as a bi-monthly luncheon, the Charity Coalition provides an opportunity for board and staff of local nonprofit organizations to network and expand their resources. Held in the Fort Harrison’s Crystal Ballroom, each luncheon hosts an average of 120 guests.

“Since the late 1920s, the Fort Harrison has been the place to come for meetings and special community events and we are proud to continue this tradition,” stated Mrs. Pat Harney, the spokesperson for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater. “Since its top to bottom restoration in 2009, the Fort Harrison has held some 500 community events. It is our pleasure to provide one of our public rooms such as a conference room, auditorium, ballroom and others for like-minded groups and individuals.”

Community events that have been held in the Fort Harrison include an appreciation dinner in April held in the Auditorium for over 350 volunteers and supporters of nonprofits and humanitarian initiatives from the Tampa Bay area. Mr. Bob Dillinger, Public Defender for Pinellas and Pasco County, was the keynote speaker.

“When the Church does something they do it right. I have been to the Fort Harrison numerous times and I brought a bunch of new people and friends and they all loved it,” stated Robert Dooley, founder of Gulf Matters charity.

In August 2015, the Church hosted a concert in celebration of the City of Clearwater’s centennial. The concert portrayed a performance of the City’s rich musical history for some 400 guests. Clearwater Mayor, George Cretekos, was one of the guest speakers and star-performers graced the stage, including actress Ann Archer and jazz legend Chick Corea. “Many long-time Clearwater residents have fond memories of the historic Clearwater icon and those who have used the facilities love coming back to the Fort Harrison to reawaken those memories,” stated Mrs. Harney.
