Colorado Wireless Association (COWA) Partners with Wish for Wheels, Brings Industry Leaders Together to Benefit Children of Metro Denver
Leaders from top wireless telecommunications companies participate in unified effort to provide Title I elementary students with new bicycles and helmets.
Denver, CO, May 19, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Colorado Wireless Association (COWA), a nonprofit organization focused on education, professional networking and regulatory support for the state’s wireless industry, held a volunteering event in partnership with Wish for Wheels that provided 85 deserving children with brand new bicycles and helmets. Nearly 70 professionals from 24 different companies- including AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Crown Castle, ComNet and more - participated in the day-long event to build the bikes and deliver them to second grade students at Pleasant View and Welchester Elementary schools.
Wish for Wheels is a Denver-based nonprofit whose mission is to transform the lives of kids from low-income families, broadening their scope for personal growth and a healthy lifestyle through the gift of a new bicycle. Wish for Wheels’ main model is to partner with companies/organizations that fund the bikes, build them as a team and then directly give the bikes to the K-2 kids whose lives are changed through the program. More than 14,000 children have received new bikes and helmets through Wish for Wheels.
“We chose this event because it was a great opportunity for our organization to give back to the community,” said Janet Rinaldi, president of COWA. “It was a fantastic team-building event for industry players outside of the typical work setting.”
“Getting a new bike is a milestone in children’s lives, giving them the chance to spend more time outdoors, have more experiences with their friends and start building a lifetime of healthy habits,” said Brad Appel, founder of Wish for Wheels. “Every child deserves that experience, and it is rewarding that we were able to make so many kids in the Denver area very happy today.”
After assembling the bikes, COWA members went to two different Title I elementary schools to deliver the bikes, helmets and riding safety instructions to the children. Wish for Wheels will continue its support to the students with programs to develop healthy habits, structure and keep the kids riding bikes.
