British Army and The Royal Regiment of Canada Artillery School to Discuss Optimising Mortar Technology for Fire Superiority in London This June
SMi Group Reports: British Army and The Royal Regiment of Canada Artillery School are confirmed speakers at London’s Mortars Systems Technology Conference this June.
London, United Kingdom, May 20, 2016 --(PR.com)-- SMi Group is delighted to announce two additional expert speakers to its Mortar Systems Technology conference: Major Nicolas French, Officer Commanding B Company, 2 PARA of the British army and Major Andrew Nicholson, Chief Instructor, Gunnery of The Royal Regiment of Canada Artillery School.
This 2-day event will bring together those at the forefront of mortar systems development and operation from the military and industry, to deliberate both the concepts of operation and technology enabling this vital supporting arm. Topics will include mortar training, range variance, precision and lethality.
New to the event line-up, Major French, will be presenting on British Army operational mortaring in Afghanistan and its future application in expeditionary and counter insurgency warfare. Drawing from his operational experience in Afghanistan between 2006-2011 as a mortar platoon commander and company commander, Major French shall also draw on tactical experience in hunting and destroying Taliban mortar teams and how this could be applied to future conflicts with recent technology and equipment developments.
Canadian speaker, Major Nicholson, will be analysing Canada's Mortar Capability Development Project and discuss key considerations for replacing mortar systems, specifically: precision, range, cost and digitisation. In addition to highlighting reasons why Canada is looking to upgrade their programme, choosing the right system for an army’s needs and finally examining the goals of Canada’s Mortar Capability Development Project and how Canada aims to achieve these.
Importantly, the conference will also be supported by expertise from industry, providing an insight into emerging technology that will influence capability development. Recent solution providers to confirm attendance include: SAGEM, Hirtenberger Defence Systems GmbH & Co KG, Weibel Scientific A/S
The event is supported by: Armada International, Defence Express, Defense Conferences, Defence and Security Alert, Defence Suppliers, Homeland Security Research and many more.
