When asked why statistical modelling is important to refining the lyophilisation process, he said, "Being able to apply statistical modelling will allow you to leverage all the information you have to predict what will happen in the lyophilisation chamber. The most advanced statistics will enable you to have a very accurate prediction of drug molecule behaviour during freeze drying and thereafter clinical studies. You can therefore optimise and fine-tune every step during your process, reducing the number of experiments and sample size required, and therefore increase your success rate. However this will require a lot of collaboration between scientists and statisticians.”
