The Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida (“STSF”) Will Present Their Second “Shakespeare! Scenes of Power” at GableStage in Coral Gables on June 21, 2016.
Coral Gables, FL, June 04, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Veteran Shakespeare actor Peter W. Galman (www.petergalman.com) is returning with the group of well-known South Florida actors he trained to act Shakespeare and who first delivered their work two months ago at The Vanguard Theatre in Fort Lauderdale.
“My mission is to train a group of actors that are committed to doing Shakespeare; to get on their feet and be confident with complex text and take the work to various venues and schools in South Florida. That’s where the audience is going to come from. Appreciation for Shakespeare needs to be cultivated and can happen as early as fourth grade. When a person hears Shakespeare for the first time they’re hearing a new language, but the poetry makes it a universal language that the person understands at an instinctive level. Delivery is key. There are rules of verse to be followed for clarity and execution of the writer’s intent. That's why training is so important,” said Mr. Galman.
Will South Florida’s mature, musical-loving audiences support a Shakespeare company? “Except for a few festivals and an occasional community or school production, there’s not much Shakespeare here,” Mr. Galman said. “If we can bring professional actors to the schools, we’ll cultivate an audience that will come to hear the words they've grown up with and learned to love.”
As an example of Galman’s vision, the group he has assembled will present a reading of scenes from the First Folio, the first published complete works of William Shakespeare, at GableStage, located on the east side of the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. Producing Artistic Director Joseph Adler is hosting the STSF reading for his GableStage audience, which last heard the Bard’s words in adaptations of “Hamlet” and “Antony and Cleopatra” by Tarell Alvin McCraney.
STSF actors who will speak the Bard’s words include Beverly Blanchette, Steve Carroll, Patty Fernandez, Peter W. Galman, Betsy Graver, Kent Harris, Jude Parry, Jessica Peterson, Kevin Reilley, George Schiavone and Karen Stephens. New members will be trained in workshops.
STSF is presenting the reading for free but is welcoming donations through the arts-friendly crowdfunding website Indiegogo, in order to cover event expenses. Theatre patrons and donors may visit the Indiegogo site at (https://igg.me/at/ShakesTroupeSoFla).
Interested actors, educators and producers should contact Mr. Galman at Peter.galman@gmail.com or by messenger on Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida’s Facebook page.
