The Birches Redefines the "Senior" Prom
The Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, Ill. hosted a “Senior” Prom that had a dance floor, DJ, photo area, corsages and everything else you’d expect at a high school dance, with just one notable difference—the guests had a bit more life experience under their belt.
Clarendon Hills, IL, June 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- When you think of the Senior Prom you usually picture a group of high school seniors letting loose after a long school year. But on May 25, residents of The Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, Ill. redefined the term.
The Birches’ “Senior” Prom had a dance floor, DJ, photo area, corsages and everything else you’d expect at a typical high school dance, with just one notable difference—the guests had a bit more life experience under their belt.
But when it came to having fun, age was irrelevant. Birches residents were just as eager to cut a rug as any 18 year old you’d meet. Of course, their preferred choice of music was a bit different.
Fortunately, DJ and musical entertainer Edizon Dayao kept to the classic tunes pumping and transported everyone back to their youth.
The prom’s theme was “A Night under the Stars” and residents danced and socialized beneath a celling draped with sparkly stars, similar to the dances they’ve attended in years past. Many family members joined in the fun too.
And when everybody was ready for a break from the dance floor, there were appetizers and beverages to enjoy, along with laughter and lively conversation.
One special touch that was unique to The Birches specifically were the handmade corsages and boutonnieres created for the residents by Birches’ Director of Maintenance Bob Bickert.
And, of course, at the end of all the festivities, The Birches even crowned a Prom King and Queen— residents Lynn Sanny and Marcella Kovalick.
According to Birches’ Executive Director Jackie Foss, all of these little details came together to create a dance experience that was like a time machine, transporting everyone back to their teenage years.
“The senior prom is such an iconic part of everyone’s youth, so it was great to see everyone reliving that fun and excitement again,” said Foss. “But it’s also a perfect reminder that you don’t have to be young to have this kind of fun, just young at heart.”
