Gifted Seven Year Old Teaches Adults the Importance of Music at Scientology Information Center
On June 4th, Mr. Maurice Mickens – the President of Harlem Nights, an organization supporting non-profits, invited his friends to the Scientology Information Center in Downtown Clearwater to gain support for the Harlem Nights “Art and Music” summer camp. The event showcased a young lady learning the flute who demonstrated the importance of music to people of all ages.
Clearwater, FL, June 10, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The event was held from 6-8pm and was attended by 18 distinguished guests and supporters of the cause. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to allow those families in the Greenwood area with financial difficulties to have their children participate in the camp. Several sponsors stepped forward, permitting several children to attend the summer camp.
“The event also created community interest to further assist the MLK Community Coalition Center to host after school programs as well,” said Mickens.
During the event Mr. Mickens acknowledged local distinguished guests such as Dr. Bob Cundiff, Clearwater City Councilman (who was gracious enough to donate his retired guitar for the art program) and members of the MLK Community Coalition Center Board and supportive friends and neighbors.
Mr. Mickens also introduced a very special guest, seven year old Aydana who attended the event with her mother and grandfather. Ms. Aydana showed the audience what she learned in 2 months of introductory flute classes, surprising adults by playing with confidence. She also explained what finger combinations on the flute made specific notes. She will continue receiving lessons at the summer camp hosted by the MLK center over her summer vacation.
Mr. Mickens closed by sharing with the audience that if the children attending the camp learn to play two songs with their instruments perfectly, they will be invited to perform at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday this fall in front of thousands of people. Ms. Aydana, did not flinch at the number, but smiled and stated, “I’m ready.”
“This little lady is quite a gem. At 7 years old she is learning to play the flute and gave a great presentation,” stated Mr. Mickens, “Helping young people learn to play an instrument and expose them to the world of art will have a lasting impact on their life!”
The “Art and Music” summer camp is for kids in the Greenwood Community. The program will teach kids art, to play instruments and how to sing by accomplished artists, musicians and a voice coach at the MLK Jr. Community Coalition Center for 7 weeks.
