Old Chatham Announces First PGA Junior League Team
Team of Amateur Golfers, Ages 8 to 13 Years Old, Competing Locally as Part of Club’s Effort to Cultivate the Next Generation of Golfers
Raleigh, NC, June 11, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Old Chatham Golf Club, a nationally recognized, premier private golf club located in the heart of North Carolina’s Research Triangle region, has announced the formation of its first-ever PGA Junior League team. Consisting of 11 players ages 8 to 13 years old, the team competes in a league of five local Triangle-based teams.
For each match, at least two teammates compete against a similar grouping from an opposing team on nine holes in a team-oriented scramble format. Each player tees off at the beginning of a hole, and then the team selects their best shot of the two. Each player then plays again from the spot of the selected shot, and the process repeats until the ball is in the hole. The team with the lowest score wins the hole.
Old Chatham’s PGA Junior League team has already been successful in its first outing, capturing a win at UNC Finley Golf Course.
In addition to competing, members of Old Chatham’s PGA Junior League team receive on-course instruction at the golf club from Phillip DesRoches, assistant golf professional at Old Chatham. “PGA Junior League is designed to foster a fun, supportive environment where youth can learn and improve every aspect of their game,” DesRoches said. “At Old Chatham, we aim to nurture the next generation of golfers, so I’m excited to lead our PGA Junior League team and watch them develop their skills and knowledge throughout the season.”
The 2016 regular season runs from April 1 to July 31 with post-season qualifiers beginning in August and the Regional Championship starting in September.
