The Travelers Protective Association Presents Altruism Awards
St. Louis organization recognizes Pennsylvania high school students' benevolence.
Lebanon, PA, June 17, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Travelers Protective Association (TPA), a fraternal benefit society, recently presented altruism awards to seven Pennsylvania high school students. They include Caitlyn Albright, Cedar Crest High School; Anissa Gulliver, Lebanon; Bryce Hains, Lebanon Catholic; Alexander Hoffsmith, Palmyra; Nick Hughes, Annville-Cleona; Nathaniel Lyon, Northern Lebanon, and; Bethany Wiczalkoski, ELCO.
The awards were presented at the TPA’s Post E Lebanon high school altruism award program. Chairman Charlie Darkes, Past National Director Jim Ruffner, and Secretary/Treasurer Carol Ruffner presented the altruism awards and gift certificates to the students. The ceremony included a speech by Rev. William Long, Interim Pastor of St. Marks United Church of Christ and Pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ. He spoke about doing good for others and how, in the long run, it makes you feel.
Founded in 1890, TPA’s national headquarters is located at 2041 Exchange Dr. in St. Charles, Mo. The association is licensed in 29 states and has over 23,000 members, which includes more than 17,000 members who have been a part of the organization for over 25 years. TPA offers fraternalism to its members, as well as participates in safety projects and community service. The association provides accident, disability and death benefits to both its members and their beneficiaries.
“These individuals were selected for the services they do for others such as unselfishly giving of their time and talents,” said TPA’s Chief Administrative Office Albert M. Shoemaker, Jr. “It is a huge honor, and we are very proud of each and every one of these students.”
Established in 1975, the organization’s Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired provides financial aid to those suffering from deafness or hearing impairment. Grants are used for mechanical devices, medical and specialized treatment, and education that includes speech classes and interpreters. To date the trust has distributed over $2 million to approximately 5,000 recipients.
TPA established the Homer T. Wilson Fund, which provides emergency financial aid and is designated for indigent members, widows, widowers and orphans. The association is also involved with Children Have An iDentity (CHAD), a local and national level safety sticker program.
