Project WeHOPE Chosen to be Honored at First-Ever California Nonprofits Day Celebration
East Palo Alto, CA, June 17, 2016 --(PR.com)-- On Wednesday, June 22, Project WeHOPE will be honored as a Nonprofit of the Year at a celebration of California Nonprofits Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
State Senator Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo) selected Project WeHOPE out of hundreds of organizations as an exceptional nonprofit in his district community. Project WeHOPE will join other nonprofit leaders from across the state being honored at this inaugural California Nonprofits Day event.
Helping the homeless is a primary focus of Project WeHOPE since 2009, going from a winter-only to a year-round emergency homeless shelter. The shelter provides a safe place to sleep for up to 65 adults per night, all of who receive a hot meal and breakfast.
Most recently in the last two years, Project WeHOPE added its own unique Supportive Housing/Transitional Program complete with case management support and educational programs; H.O.P.E. Jobs job training and certification program; and Dignity on Wheels mobile hygiene and outreach program. Each program is designed to help homeless individuals staying at the WeHOPE Shelter or out in the community the opportunity to rebuild their lives and regain self-sufficiency.

Bains, Co-Founder and President of Project WeHOPE. He and his wife, Cheryl Bains, began Project WeHOPE together.
The award recipients will visit the Assembly Floor and then will be honored at a luncheon at Sacramento’s Sheraton Grand Hotel, with presentations from former Senate President Pro Tempore Sacramento Mayor-Elect Darrell Steinberg, Assembly member Rich Gordon, and Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits).

But too often nonprofits are ‘hidden in plain sight.’ We are thrilled that the State Assembly has passed a resolution putting the spotlight on nonprofits as an economic power that uses that power for the common good. We congratulate all of the award recipients on being honored for the great work they do every day to make California a better place,” said Jan Masaoka, CEO of California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), a statewide alliance of over 10,000 organizations, representing and promoting California’s growing nonprofit sector and working to bring the full power of nonprofits to strengthening communities.
