Fluorescent Glass Microspheres Now Available from Cospheric LLC
Cospheric now offers a complete product line of Fluorescent Coated Solid Glass Microspheres to satisfy the need for high-visibility, high crush strength, solvent resistant spherical tracer particles.
Santa Barbara, CA, June 16, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Cospheric LLC, a microsphere manufacturing and distributing company, expanded their line of brightly colored glass tracer particles for Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) applications. Glass microspheres are offered in seven fluorescent coated colors (Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange-Yellow, Orange, Red, Violet) and three options for glass formulations (Borosilicate Glass, Soda Lime Glass Barium Titanate Glass).
Seven fluorescent color coating options on solid glass microspheres with broad spectrum responses:
Fluorescent Blue Glass Microspheres - 445nm peak emission at 407nm excitation
Fluorescent Green Glass Microspheres - 515nm peak emission at 414nm excitation
Fluorescent Yellow Glass Microspheres - 525nm peak emission at 485nm excitation
Fluorescent Orange-Yellow Glass Microspheres - 594nm peak emission at 460nm excitation
Fluorescent Orange Glass Microspheres - 606nm peak emission at 577nm excitation
Fluorescent Red Glass Microspheres - 607nm peak emission at 585nm excitation
Fluorescent Violet Glass Microspheres - 636nm peak emission at 584nm excitation
Three solid glass microsphere formulations are available in diameters of 45 micron and larger and the following densities:
Borosilicate Glass Microspheres – Density ~2.2g/cc
Soda Lime Glass Microspheres – Density ~2.5g/cc
Barium Titanate Glass Microspheres – Density ~4.5g/cc
Solid glass microspheres are partially coated with fluorescent materials. The fluorescent, solvent resistant coating is applied to half of each microsphere, making the glass particles appear colorful, fluorescent, and highly visible in daylight. Coated glass microspheres exhibit bright fluorescent response under ultraviolet (UV) light enabling these particles to function spectacularly as fluorescent tracers or highly visible targets.
Scientists have been searching for highly visible fluorescent solid glass tracers as a higher temperature alternative to polymer particles. Cospheric's fluorescent coated glass microspheres withstand temperatures up to 175°C, enabling higher temperature applications. Solvent resistance and high crush strength allow fluorescent solid glass microspheres to be used in aggressive solvent-based systems. Fluorescent coated solid glass microspheres offer a high visibility option with a specific spectrum response.
Custom fluorescent coatings can also be applied to polyethylene, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), ceramic, and cellulose acetate spheres, as well as clear glass or silver coated glass microspheres for the desired effect.
Cospheric offers a unique capability to manufacture Janus microspheres and microparticles with partial coatings and dual functionality. Currently half-shell or hemispherical coatings can be applied to any sphere (glass, polymer, ceramic) in sizes 45 micron in diameter and higher. Each coating is custom formulated for color, charge, magnetic, electric, and surface properties, and solvent resistance per customers’ needs. Hemispherical coatings of less than one micron with tolerances as low as 0.25 micron have been routinely demonstrated. Color combinations are truly unlimited. White, black, silver, blue, green, red, yellow, brown, purple in both fluorescent and non-fluorescent colors, and coverage of between 20% to 50% of the sphere are possible. Sphericity of greater than 90% and custom particle size ranges are offered.
Solid glass microspheres with fluorescent coatings can be purchased through Cospheric.com.
About Cospheric LLC:
Cospheric LLC develops, manufactures, and distributes high-quality nanospheres and microspheres in sizes from 100 nanometer (nm) to 10millimeter (mm) and larger. Cospheric specializes in polyethylene microspheres and carries a large stock of polyethylene microspheres in many colors, fluorescent, phosphorescent, neutrally-buoyant, and paramagnetic properties. Cospheric also offers a selection of PMMA, ceramic, soda-lime glass, borosilicate glass, silica, stainless steel, silver-coated, and titanium dioxide-coated spheres, some available in spacer grades with very tight particle size distributions. Cospheric welcomes inquiries for custom manufacturing of microspheres tuned to each customer’s unique specifications. Cospheric is an eco-friendly company that uses only recyclable materials and no solvents in the manufacturing process. Most products are in-stock and ship worldwide.
