Structured Cable Products, Inc. Releases High Quality, Low Smoke, Zero Halogen (LSZH) Audio and Network Cables
Miami, FL, January 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Structured Cable Products (SCP), an industry leader in low voltage wiring, has created Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) audio, CAT5E & CAT6 cables covered with a highly flame-retardant LSZH cable jacket that contain no halogens and, when burned, produce very small amounts of smoke.
SCP’s LSZH cable is ideal for applications where a high degree of safety and equipment protection from toxic and corrosive gases is required. The use of LSZH cables also reduce emission levels of carbon monoxide (CO) gas by as much as 360% and produce less smoke (a combination of gas, soot and chemical residue) during combustion.
Cables with LSZH jackets reduce the amount of extremely toxic and corrosive gases that cabling with plastic (PVC) jackets would normally emit during combustion. For example, when burning PVC, the hydrogen chlorine gas produced is very similar to “mustard” gas. These halogenated gases are dangerous because they immediately form acids when they come in contact with water – even in small amounts. The chlorine from PVC makes hydrochloric acid. The water source that the gases use to form these acids can be found almost anywhere – moisture in the eyes, throat and lungs of individuals with whom it comes in contact, as well as fire sprinkler systems and humidity in the air.
Both LSZH and Plenum cables have low flammability, but LSZH jackets are safer than Plenum-rated cable jackets which still release toxic and caustic fumes when they are burned. These benefits make LSZH jackets the ideal cabling solution for close quarter applications such as ships, submarines, aircraft, high-end server rooms and network centers.
SCP will introduce the new LSZH cables at the Integrated Systems Europe 2008 in Amsterdam RAI, NL (Booth O178).
