Writers Gather at Mercy by the Sea to be Inspired
Madison, CT, June 23, 2016 --(PR.com)-- A group of writers gathered on Saturday, June 18 at Mercy by the Sea in Madison to celebrate the writing life and connect with other writers. Coming from throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and as far as Chicago, participants with varied backgrounds, working in different genres found common ground, in the Creating A Writing Life program that has been ongoing for the past 10 years. Created by writer Patricia Ann Chaffee, the programs have always interested emerging writers as well as those who are established and just need a little nudge.
“Many writers return year after year and there is always a mix of familiar faces and new friends to be made,” said Chaffee. “It is a safe, sacred, non-judgmental atmosphere that is inspiring but also filled with practical, often hidden, knowledge.”
Guest speaker during the event was award winning poet and founder of Homebound Publications Leslie M. Browning. Participants found her to be a wealth of information about the publishing world, who was generous with her time, resources and talents.
“I just find that the retreats really help me to center and focus,” said Jennifer Lorang of Lisle, New York. “Coming back to the place that always inspires me every year was beyond fantastic. I don't know what it is . . . but these retreats have a power behind them. They feel very sacred and empowering. They always give me a boost.”
Another Creating A Writing Life Retreat for Emerging Writers will take place Saturday, July 30 from 9:30-4:30 at Mercy By the Sea, a 33 acre retreat center on Long Island Sound. Registration is being accepted now and includes the program, breakfast and lunch. The cost is $145 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Stroke Association.
Guest speaker for the event is three time author and medicine woman, Leslie Karen Hammond. For the past 16 years Leslie’s powerful insights have influenced thousands of people in the way they “show up and speak out” in the world. She is committed to helping mission-driven people share their stories with books and from the stage. Her book-publishing program, “Tell Your Story” and Confident Speaker Series, teach people how to write and tell their story.
